Meet JackSmith aka Reacher

Meet JackSmith aka Reacher

Heading into Christmas week, ribbons are not that pretty for Target Shoppers as news of credit card breaches upsetting the holiday atmosphere…lets call out Jack Reacher; well he seems to be vacation so all we are left with is JackSmith.

Its the most wonderful time of the year with kids jingle belling et al, if you’re still in the mood for a cool game review, we have Jack Smith a fine game to learn the art of metallurgy and primitive weapon design. The game is a donkeykong simulation of the art of primitive weapon design, followed by a war. You get to understand your skill sets in weapon design by the immediate objectives being ascertained….aka how well they did in battle.

If you really are into weapons design, swords are not the only things being manufactured here. For starters there is Bow & Arrow design, Axes, Shields ,pikes and Masons……wish they had Cannon design, but it appears that you can only win them through bonus points.

Ah yes, some old school thinking on the part of flipline studios…there is a princess…and she need to be rescued. As  kids, we believed princesses were simply locked-up in dungeons. 🙂

The game sports a cool walkthrough that first introducing you to scout….whats a game without a dog..lol. In the apprenticeship training you will be taught the science of sword making and some quantum physical dimensions of Power & Durability. If you turn the oven on and smelt the various metals too fast, then you lose points on durability, if you mix the metals wrong then you will be powerless against certain demons. Dracula, it is said can only be slain with silver…or was that the werewolf in Mr.Hyde….so the point is understand the metal mixtures that need to go into the formation of the equipment…..research the enemy.

At war, there is indeed not much to do but wait and watch……performance of your army depends solely on how well you manufactured the weapons. Ah , there is some garbage collection to be performed when the army destroys the monsters…take their weapons and score brownie points.

Interestingly there are a few pointers to team work and how a small mistake can snowball into a larger one. The simulation engine appears to have taken into account one of the various statistical distributions to make for a very realistic war time goof up show.

The game is most suitable for kids aged 8 to 14, google analytic indicators show one more hump around the 35 to 45 bracket , ….wonder what thats about.

One final note on behalf of flipline studios the game authors. They have a remarkable line up of successful sims including the entire Papa Pizza genre…..yum.  There is Papa’s Burgeria…a sim on actually making your own burgers, there is Papa’s Freezeria on how to make your own icecreams , Papa’s Hot Doggeria…forget what that was about…and the original Papa Louie Pizza Sim. Flipline is always giving us the most essential games to help us in our day to day lives…and now, with chaos reigning supreme in the world today,…..we now have a DIY sword game….we hope you do enjoy JackShit.

Christmas Game Review – Learn to Fly 2

Filed under: Game Reviews — by y88dotin @ 9:21 am

Well its that time of the year again, with a few days of vacation, Rebecca Black has moved over to Saturday and I thought I’d have a White Christmas by taking stock of whats happening in kids entertainment and free online gaming.

The icy artic circle is now site of a base camp where a penguin wants to prove the world wrong.

The icy artic circle is now site of a base camp where a penguin wants to prove the world wrong.

Kids these days are yearning for notoriety on their social media profiles, scouring through boring analytics and social media sweepstakes I found some interesting trends taking shape ‘kids maturing beyond their age and grown ups wanting to be kids again’. It was indeed amusing to come across all the purposeful cat fights and lolita tea partying all staged on twitter and facebook. Its no wonder that some of the games topping the analytic benchmarks are G I Jane, Learn to fly 2 and Make Up Mania.

So I took a closer look at Learn to fly 2, the story of a little penguin that felt insulted whilst reading wikipedia, or in penguin terms kiwipedia, about the penguins inability to fly. This penguin wanted to prove the world wrong and decided to research several subjects including Physics, Aero Space and rocket dynamics in order to Learn to Fly.

The game physics of Learn 2 fly 2 appears to be the same used in monster truck and several other catapult series that was supposed to have originated with ‘Hedgehog Launch’ a game by John Clooney, the latter being in no way related to George Clooney.

Scientific Principled Penguin

The science between penguins and flying

Going one level deeper into the game, the objective seems to be to get the penguin to fly using the laws of physics and scientific principle. In the first place you have a ramp on which you let Mr.Penguin gain momentum to take off, points are given for the distance you cover from the time you take off to the time you land, in simple terms get as high as possible and as far as possible.Game scoring is on the basis of height and distance with time providing a multiplier effect.

You will be pleased to note that there is a cheat at this stage, taking its cue from ski-jumping, in order to gain momentum down the ramp, use the forward arrow button ->, but once you leave the ramp you might want to experiment a bit with all four arrow buttons in order to negotiate your height attained against the environmental conditions you find Mr. Penguin flying through.

The second cheat is to experiment with the landing a bit as you wouldn’t want a ‘plonk type’ landing…..try to get him to skim on the surface a bit …like a stone skipping on water, that should get you through the extra mile.

Getting the hang of the basics will fuel your fun when you get enough reward points to buy performance enhancing stuff 🙂 Oh yes , there are additional points for destroying targets.

Found a few quirks though, if you maintain air resistance at 3% and rocket speed at about 175 you can sail through at about 4500 feet lol. One more cheat is the continue button available on y9 ….press it whilst in rocket propelled mode to whiz from 6000 feet to 8000 feet.  I’m quite sure you’re winning this one,  I do hope you get a hang of the game and have yourself a Merry Christmas.
